Re: ilovemyself
I’ve wondered, myself, how she feels about her father. Plainly she resents him for abandoning them (her comments about actors being liars), but I wonder if she would be willing to reconcile with him on a pragmatic basis (the need for money and the diminishment of the risk of getting turned over to social services) or for Lucian’s sake, or if she still loves him enough to want the relationship repaired for her own sake, as well. I wonder if she is able to forgive him, or if she is willing to reconcile with him even if she can’t forgive him fully.
I wonder, as well, how he will handle the news of all the trouble they’ve had since he ran off. Will he be able to forgive himself? If not, that might cause trouble for them; an obsession with one’s own sense of guilt often can cause problems for others. He may not feel worthy to return to them, even if that is what is best for them. Alternately, will he try to reassert his authority as their father even after all this? Will he unilaterally decree that they must change their way of life (sensible but perhaps inconvenient orders like “no more part time jobs,” “You have to tell everyone that you’re a girl,” “don’t hang out with your former stalker,” that kind of thing) and cause even more trouble for them?
How can they handle this without even more trouble coming up? How can their dad properly take responsibility without openly confessing his failures and bringing a media circus down on them? If he is both as decent as I hope he is and as weak as I fear he is, I don’t know whether he could handle the guilt incurred by knowing the full extent of his failures and simultaneously maintaining his good public image.
I think it would be hard for her to forgive her dad, but that she would be willing to. I think this because she tries to let Lucian believe their dad is good. Even though she struggles with the fact that he just left them and hasn’t returned.
Re: bunnersmklmao
I thought about it some more. I guess what Charlie would do almost anything for is the promise to get a message through to her father.
In my head canon she of course tried to reach him through official channels time and again, but someone decided that it must be crazy fans who claim to be his kids and threw every letter away without ever mentioning anything about it to Jason Hides.
If the photographer knows Jason Hides’ real identity and hears Charlie’s surname, she might connect the dots and start asking how her dad is or something. And she might just know someone who knows someone…
Now I’m totally on board with Charlie being the model, but I’m not too sure how they are gonna convince her? I know people are saying money, but I feel like Charlie wouldn’t throw away her grudge for money even if she needs it? Lmao I could be completely wrong tho- love the chapter so far, the drawings look great!
So I decided to reread this because it’s incredible and how does anyone expect me to be satisfied reading it once. Things I’ve noticed in no particular order:
A. The nurse goes on a smoke break when she was smoking right before Louis and Charlie walk in
B. On the poster in lucian’s room, it says “JASON HIDES” and for a runaway dad I think that’s really funny
C. The flashback scene is really well written and works really well
D. Charlie has been raising Lucian for over three years. Three. Lucian probably doesn’t even remember his mom well, or what he does is only in the hospital.
E. The comic itself is incredible. The whole thing is well written, well drawing, and very funny.
F. Louis never fails to humor me. (Haha see what I did there) I love how he always knows everything about everyone. Even their zodiac sign.
G. During code red, the steps Charlie and Lucian take to make it seen like their dad is home is really thorough, very minor details.
H. Charlie’s apron reads “fake it til you make/bake it” (I think it changes) and I think that is a perfect summary of Charlie’s life
I. I think the chapter titles are a good blend of james’ love for photography (and every other instance the film biz is mentioned) and the whole comic, kinda ties it together nicely.
J. The end doodles are hilarious.
K. Louis restarts his drawing of the dog. He was not satisfied with the first
L. How many times have James and Louis gone in disguise?
M. Everyone is sarcastic and I love it.
N. Charlie’s neighbor once says Lucian hasn’t been over in a while, is he skipping out on being babysitter?
O. When Charlie reads out the letter from their dad, she says “I’ll write again soon” but the letter says he’ll come home soon.
P. Lucian likes to sing randomly, does he get it from his dad?
Q. There’s more but I forgot them
R. Why is Friday always so far away?
Ahah thanks for the reread and your comments :p I love having readers attentive to details because I love adding lots of details in my story so I’m always happy when someone picks them up!
